Adding user to MySql

Ok, like many, I am pretty new to both php and mysql so this week i set-up phpMyAdmin to organise a database on a server set-up with php4. My problem is trying to add users, i have tried adding a row to the user table under the MySql option but it doesn't show up through telnet when i go to see if it's worked. Does anyone know any other way to add users or where I might be going wrong....?

Hi, the same applied for me, wehen I tried to get used to mysql!

So firstly I recommend that you download the Mysql dokumentation and read the chapter about Grant tables (may sound unlike!)
Then you should have at least a basic knowledge about how to insert data into a table.
With this combination it should be possible for you to insert the data even through telnet.

By the way: when you've installed phpmyadmin, you could enter the relevant data with this tool unless you haven't the rights.

Yeah, i just checked on Telnet and realised that what happens is that when you add a user through phpMyAdmin it doesn't encrypt the password properly so it is fairly useless on that level. I've dug my way through the mysql manual now and managed to do it through the telnet client....thanks for responding!
