Enters in text

Hi,

I have an update page for my website, on which it is possible to add activities. I use a form to input the data online with a MySQL database behind it. In the form is also a text field. When I insert text into that, it just comes plain on my website, so there are no <enters> in it. This is very irritating, because it makes large texts hard to read and I cannot add alineas.
My question is what I have to do, so the <enters> I give in my textbox are saved in the database and displayed on my site? Does it require certain settings in my textbox, php script or my database?

Also is might be nice to be able to make words bold or italic in this textbox. Does anyone know a script that makes it able to do so (if not to complicated...)

nl2br() is your friend... also check out http://yapbb.sourceforge.net/article.php?sid=6&mode=threaded&order=0 thats probably what you want to use...

I'm only a beginner, so I don't know what you mean by "nl2br()"??

What I basically need is that PHP replace all the /n by html tag <br>, so that these become visible.

Just like when I have typed text in the textbox as a reply and when I have posted it, the breaks I put in are also there in the text.

It probably is just something simple....but for a beginner :-)

and since your a beginner you must not know how to read the manual as well... nl2br() is the function call to convert newlines "\n" with brs "<br>". it is exactly what you want...

How do you use this fuction "nl2br()" in your source actually.
For a textarea for exemple.

I have :
