Get table contents Insert into another

What I am trying to do is grab information I have stored temporarily in a table and move the contents to another table.

ex.
table 1. Holds PHPSESSID \w all users temp input such as multiple cart contents.

what I need to do is after the user completes his transaction is grab all the rows containing their PHPSESSID and put it into a table holding a list of their transactions.

so table 2. Holds completed transaction.

I know I should be using some time of looping statement.. yet I have gotten nothing to work correctly for me yet.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

something like
INSERT INTO table2 SELECT * FROM table1 WHERE bla
should work.

But why don't you just add a column called 'status' that holds the transaction status: incomplete/completed/processing/shipped/waiting_for_parts etc..

In my transactions table I do have a column for 'status'. However I created a table to store temporary cart contents for a visitor and sort it by PHPSESSID, once the user checksout I need to transfer the order into the transactions table where the user and admin will be able to view(for user) and change(for admin) the users account status.

Is this the wrong way to go about doing this?

I'm not saying it's wrong, just that there may be an easier way, by storing both the temporary and 'finished' orders in the same table.
Technically there's no difference between the temporary and the 'finished' order data, they are only one status-flag apart, so why a seperate table?

It just saves you the trouble of copying records from table to table.

hmm.. Maybe I am not explaining my situation well enough. I apologize for that.

My shopping cart has no user authentication. I do not want people to have to sign up to buy. So what i did was create 2 tables for transactions.

Table 1. Is a temporary table to store a random users cart selection.
Upon checkout, existing users can login and new users fill out their information. Once checkout is finished I need to put all the items selected by the user sorted by their PHPSESSID into table 2 and assign the items to the users unique id.

Table 2. Is for finished transactions, it is sorted by a unique user id. It contains all the account status information for both the admin and the user.

So, I am not sure how I could tie both of these tables into 1.

HMm yes that does change things a little.
If the users have not signed in before they can select products, you can only identify them by sessionid.
I guess there are too many differences between the two tables to merge them into one.

Still, the copying statement should be too difficult:

INSERT INTO table2 (productid, amount)
SELECT (productid, amount)
FROM table1
WHERE sessionid = x
