private messaging

hello there.
Recently I thought of adding private messaging to my forum, but then I thought again and it striked me that I don't really have any ideas on how to do it.
So if you feel like writing today please do leave your opinion or experience right here.

Depending on how you are storing your users this is as easy as letting the user enter an email address (if that's how you identify users) into a TO box and only showing that message if the logged in user has that user name.

My question is why? Email already exists for this, why whould your users use your system to send a private message?

well actually you right, it is very easy. One table with three columns: from, to, date. Easy as abc, I just haven't given it much thought.
Why? Actually for no reason - I agree with email point. But it's just da*n nice to know that I could do the same if I'd like to.
