Interbase 6.0+PHP = Slow performance??

I'm using PHP4.01rl2+Interbase6 SuperServer on rh6.1.

After connecting to a database either via IBconsole or isql or even multiple connections to the database from my website,the connection time it takes for the PHP scripts is usually about 1.5-2.0 seconds, thats just when trying to connect(ibase_connect()), the query don't take much time etc...When disconnected from the db in
IBConsole/isql connection times go back down to .01 secs. All db settings are default. Does anyone have any ideas, perhaps its a db setting that i've failed to set?

The problem seems to happen when there is 1 conenction open the another tries to connect, it takes a bit longer to connect. If you need any more info, just ask.

I'll assume you're using Interbase's free ODBC driver, which is known to be pretty pokey slow.

Look into using mySQL or postgresql if they meet your needs. I know the odbc in postgresql is rock solid, and am pretty sure the one in mysql is pretty good too.

Unfortunately, I think all the petty bickering at Inprise may kill off a nice little database...

What is your Interbase version (6.0.0 or Beta)? There can be some bugs in connection. I'm using Beta -version and I have same problems.

I'm using InterBaseSS_LI-V6.0-1.i386.rpm, I was getting the same connection problems when i was using the Beta version.

Trying to connect to InterBase Server...
No luck...
Been getting the message:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: ibase_connect() in C:\X-Server\blaxpear\adap_test.php

I realize you guys have probably been through this stage...

Runnin' PHP on Win2000, do I still need to do a special compile, other than the standard Win32 Binary?? And if so what modifications must I make to the source? Oh man... I wish it was easier...
