Checking for MySQL Updates

I trying to write a script that checks a MySQL database for updates.

I want to check for updates to the database then then send an automatic email if the database has been updated.

Any ideas??

Be more specific. but if I understood correcly just send a email when the php script updates the database. Straight after the UPDATE sql query has been sent/

Sorry I\'m not explaining myself properly.

The MySQL database can updated by a number of different people throughout the organisation.

I need a script that checks the database every hour or so for any changes that have been made.

If a change has been made to the database then the script will send out an email

Is this any clearer?

You could mark any updates to the database with a DATESTAMP and then search for any entries with a DATESTAMP greater than the time you last did this check?

You could store the time of each check in a flatfile or another database table, whichever is more convenient for you.

On a unix box I'd use a cron job.

'man cron'

I'd probably write a perl script which was called by cron, made the database query and sent the e-mail. You could do it with PHP if you have it compiled as a CGI.

I presume there are similar tools for windows but I haven't used them.
