problems with mysqldump

I have to move a database from one server to another..
to dump the file i did this

mysqldump -u user -p DATABASE > database.sql

---

and the database.sql file was created...

then i went to the new server and did the inverse dump

---

mysqldump -u user -p database < database.sql

---

and recieved this info:

MySQL dump 6.8

#

Host: localhost Database: poketienda

#--------------------------------------------------------

Server version 3.22.30

---

No data was copied to the existing poketienda database.

Can someone help !?

Don't use mysqldump to insert into a database, just use:

mysql -u username -p database < foo.sql

or even mysqlimport.

Try the following:

First, make sure you create the database on the new server first.

mysqladmin -u user -p create <databasename>

next, cat the sql file and pipe it to mysql

cat database.sql | mysql -u user -p <databasename>

and that should do it. Hope that helps!
