max_connect_errors - Whats the limit?

I just changed the max_connect_errors to 10000 in order to try and solve the problem described in the previous post and the server crashed. Is that too high of a limit? Whats a safe limit to use and if you know of any other solutions to a MySQL too many coinnections errors please let me know.

Thank you for your response. but will setting the limit to 0 cause the server to crash by any chance? Our sites receive upto 10 million pages views a month.
