what is a datasource name?

Hi could someone please tell me what a datasource name refers to?

where did you get the term datasource name from?

I's in a resellers console for setting up sites and DB's. I know it's not referingto the datababase name or any tables. Could it be something to do with the use of phpmysqladmin?
