RTFM for examples. You use save() and load() on LOB columns.

I did not post the original message, but I am also trying to insert and retrieve blobs into an Oracle 8.1.7 database, from a bespoke java application.
Could you recommend any documentation for me to look at, I've not managed to find anything so far.
