MySQL Problem :(

I'm running Linux - Apache - PHP - Mysql but when i want to connect to the Mysql server I get the following error:
Fatal error: Call to unsupported or undefined function mysql_pconnect() in /home/httpd/html/bc/index.php on line 17

$db = mysql_connect "localhost", "login", "pass");

Phpmyadmin doesn't show anything but a white screen...

only webmin can access the database!!!

anyone has some advice ???

Your code is incorrect...
In the example you gave:
$db = mysql_connect "localhost", "login", "pass");

You're missing a (

In the error return you gave:

Fatal error: Call to unsupported or undefined function mysql_pconnect() in /home/httpd/html/bc/index.php on line 17

It is an entirely different function...
mysql_pconnect is for making persistent connections. Please elaborate more if the your problem isn't related to what is above.
