Remove Connection to Oracle oci

I've looked on php.net for build in functions to connect to oci and all of them only have
the user name and password arguments. Unlike the mysql_connection were you can also say the remote host connection. I dont know how to connect, maybe it's a env variabl. Can some one help me out or suggest a way of doing so.

I think for the case of OCI functions, they are assuming you either have the Oracle database on the same box as the webserver running PHP or you have an Oracle client inststalled on the same box that is configured to connect to Oracle on the remote box.

as far as i can tell you from Oracle Net8,you need an installation of Net8 Client on the webserver. With Net8 Assistant you create a logical database name which point via TCP/IP to your oracle database. You will find this configuration in a file called tnsnames.ora. With Net8 Assistant you can also test your connection maybe with user scott/tiger. Be sure that your path variable(NT) points to the oracle_home folder.
