I've tried to do that before and I've managed after some effort.
I would strongly advise not to put the images in the database. I think the headache isn't worth the gain.

Yeah I got that working after some tweaking, then threw it aside. I don't see any use for it. But blessen asked for it, so I'll give him/her the link to the article.

Just put the image URL into the database, and use an upload function to FTP it to a certain place on your server (obviously with the two corresponding).
