PHP, MySQL, and Flash

are there any good tutorials or sites that cover using all 3 of these together?

Tutorials covring PHP and FLASH together exist, but none of them are focused on a particular db.

My suggestion is get comfortable with PHP and MySQL and then read the tutorials on PHP and FLASH.

Unfortunately, there are more tutorials on FLASH with ASP then PHP, but if you're confident in your PHP skills, even these can be helpful.

If you want to create FLASH with PHP, this site (phpbuilder) has more info than any other. If you want to use FLASH to communicate with PHP, check out http://www.actionscripts.org, http://www.udzone.com and it's sister, http://www.FLzone.com. Macromedia has a few tutorials on how to use Flash forms to talk to server side scripts, so check there as well.

There's a lot of gotchas out there, I'm hoping to do some writting myself, but it won't be until the end of the month.

I've been looking for a month and come up with very little. As Matt said, there is a lot of documentation on PHP with MySQL, and there is plenty written on Flash-to-PHP, but almost nothing that combines it all. One book, Server Side Flash has a few good examples and tricks about how to integrate all three, but there is just as much on ASP/SQL, Perl/SQL and XML. I've come up with a few scripts to convert PHP arrays into ActionScript arrays, and stuff like that so if you're interested email me and I'll send 'em your way. On another note, if you know of any resources for libswf or ming I'd appreciate it--trying to create swf's from jpegs on the fly and there's almost nothing out there in the way of documentation.

Since you've been looking, I have to ask, have you had any luck finding good detailed documentation on parsing XML with FLASH?

It took me days just to figure out the problem FlashPlayer 5,0,30,0 has with sending XML to PHP scripts. I've found that these XML functions are documented, but I just can't find any practical knowledge.

Have you had any luck? I'm starting to wonder if anyone is actually using this feature.

Hey,

The brightest light I've seen is a product by Fusion Inc called Alternator. It's a bunch of server solutions written in C to help flash deal with some of its shortcomings. You can request a beta CD from them at [e-mail], or read more about it at www.flashroots.net. It looks really fly--check it out.
