NT4+PHP+Apache don\'t access NT4+Oracle

Hello folks:

I have been trying for the last 2 days (thu/fri) to connect to a remote NT4+Oracle server using local NT4+PHP+Apache, I tryed all the tips in this forum, and some were useful, but always when I solve a problem another one shows up.

From Net8 Easy Config I can perfectly connect to data base. So server is ok, local client is ok, user and pass is ok.

Then I set the three variables before calling ora_connect:
putenv("ORACLE_SID=THE_SID");
putenv("ORACLE_HOME=D:\orant\");
putenv("TNS_ADMIN=D:\orant\net80\admin\");

The TNS_ADMIN folder has a valid tnsnames.ora.

The connecting code is this one:
$conn = ora_logon("the_user@THE_SID", "the_pass");
echo "ERROR: " . ora_error();

It returns the following output:
ERROR: ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name

Here are the details:
Client
. NTWks 4
. Apache 1.3.2
. PHP 4.0.6
. Oracle Client 8.0.5
Server
. NTWks 4
. Oracle Server 8.0.5

Both using TCP/IP with inet access
The final version will be hosted using LnxRH+Apache+PHP accessing the same database server.

Can anybody help me solving this? Is it better to change from ora functions to odbc functions? Is it better to change from Apache+PHP to Apache+JSP+JDBC or Tomcat+JSP+JDBC?

Hi,

ora_logon is SQLNet function. Not Net 8 function. Try to conncet with Oracle Client 7.X which uses SQLNet. You can use Oracle Client 7.x to connect Oracle Server 8.0.5.

If you want to use Net 8 Function use Oracle 8 Functions(Oracle 8 OCI ).

First of all, thanks.

But I have loaded oci module at PHP.ini and all I got is a message box from browser telling me that he can't find OCILobClose at OCI.dll (that exists at d:\orant\bin) and consenquently can't load php_oci8.dll (that exists at c:\php\extensions\, the same place php is searching and finding it)

I have searched for this solution in the last hour, but didn't find anything. Could anybody help me please? :o/

I have Winnt Server, Apache 1.3.1 and php4.0.8

I've tried almost everything and nothing works... Thanks in advance, I' going crazy with this.

Ok, I kind of solved the problem. I mean, it's working today. But, why didn't I submited the solution?

Well, I'm not sure what happened, so I can't tell you exactly what to do, and if I submit something like this I could generate more doubts about this.

But I'll tell what happened. Here the main problem was that the php dll that accesse oracle was incompatible with installed oracle client. The solution? I tried to install another client, and another, and another... I couldn't tell you for sure which client worked, but it worked.

Later, I had problems with a specific oci function, I downloaded a new .dll version that was incompatible with my client, then I installed other oracle versions.

Why I don't care about this mess? This was temporary, I solved this within 2 days and then I could use my temporary research server for a month or two, now it's not even installed.

Conclusion. If I had used linux I wouldn't had this problem. The whole problema was about incompatibilities between compiled dll and oracle client versions. My advice is "Forget about Windows"
