MySQL -> how much byte for text???

i am coding a guestbook, which is completly stored in a MySQL table, BUT what should i tell the table, how much space to reserve for the main-text, cause that 1 can vary from 10 to 1000 characters!

Use the 'text' datatype, read the mysql manual about the available types.
