MYSQL windows and linux - transportable?

Hello,

To anyone who has had experience:

I'm wondering if I can take a MYSQL table from linux MYSQL and use it on a windows machine and vice versa, or does the data have to be imported/exported?

I'm thinking about something like wordprocessors or programs where you can use a file whether you're on windows, linux or a mac because it's written to be shared on any operating system. Is MYSQL like that?

You'll have to export and import the data.

Thanks for your answer to the MYSQL question. That's a tiresome process, but I guess there's no other way.

Also, I'm wondering about something else, if perhaps you or someone has an answer.

I've heard of replication, where the database gets updated over various places, such as on the web. Is that something that's difficult to set up, if I have heard about replication correctly?

A tiresome process?
mysqldump databasename --add-drop-table >outfile.sql

and on your windows:
mysql databasename < outfile.sql

Heck, you can even tell pipe the data straight through to your windows.
If I'm not too much mistaken:

mysqldump databasename --add-drop-table | mysql -h windowshost -uuser -ppassword databasename
