MySQL vs. MS SQL Server

Our company uses MS SQL and Cold Fusion. I know...(YUCK). We are converting to Liux and PHP. They want to continue to use MS SQL. I would like to convince them to switch, so can anyone tell me how much more efficient MySQL runs over MS SQL Server?(I am correct in assuming MySQL runs more efficient aren't I?) I need some data to convert them. Thanks!

postgresql is much closer to mssql than mysql is. Mysql is really in a class by itself because of its support of non-standard sql and lack of transactions, referential integrity, etc.

If you have the choice and want a comparable db, don't use mysql.

Thanks for the response. We won't be using the database for transaction account history or anything, just sales leads off online forms which are accessed with Siebel eventually. They are concerned about cpu time and we get about 2 million hits a day. Do you think MS SQL would run efficiently, because I know they won't use potgresql.

p.s.I have found Enhanced MySQL at nusphere.com which offers system recovery and rollback features, row level locking etc.. for e.g. transactions.

Out of curiousity, why won;t "they" use Postgres?

I have no problem using postgresql or MS SQL, it is rated very high, but they were worrying about cpu resources. I beleive their main reason to not go with any other database was because of the amount of money they paid to have Siebel installed and setup on our network. We track everything from how many pages were viewed to their dog's name on the sales leads!
