Upgrading Mysql

Hi,

My problem is this:
I was running mysql 3.41 on win 98se. I've fresh installed
win 2000 pro sp2 and installed mysql 4 over the top of
3.41.

I've lost the settings in my.ini (i need innodb for
transactions) and i can't remember anything about them
except it took me ages to get it working. When I try
to start mysql as a stand alone it wont start up. What
file etc do I look in to see whats going wrong on startup and has
anyone got some tips on how to get innodb working
quickly with my old tables. Which brings me to another
point. How to I set up innodb again without wiping my
old data files? I need my old data from my old tables desperatly.

So, now you know why everybody always tells you to make a backup of all your data before you change your setup.

First, do some damage control, and backup whatever is left of your data files.
While trying yo recover you are bound to make more mistakes and one of them will erase all that was left of your databass.

Then start by reading the F'ing mysql manual on how to setup InnoDB support:

Then pray MYSQL is wonky enough to let you replace the newly created innodb file with your old one.

Oh, and if you do get it working, please make a backup of the data so you won't have to go through all this again.
