Characters not allowed in mysql?

I've set up a couple of db systems which handle inputting stuff through PHP forms into a mysql database. However, I'm having some problems - and I think the problem might be to do with my data types of fields.

When I type ' (or apostrophe) it produces a script error at the mysql_select(INSERT - and the error tends to come up with a blob field.

Is there anything else I need to do to sort this out?

I'd also like to get paragraphs enabled.

Any ideas?

About the quotes" use addslashes() on your query before you execute it. This will add a backslash in front of each quote so MySQL knows you want to store the quote, and that the quote is not part of the SQL statement.

About the paragraphs, those are linebreaks; read this:

Thanks once again Vincent -- this stuff is coming together nicely.

When I add slashes, they appear in the string, but then, when I try and strip them, some still appear.

For example, when I have she said " I get three slashes (\) - is this correct? The result is
