the web server is pingable & responds on port 80. however, if you telnet to port 80 and request a page it seems to stop responding after:

thats the last i see sent by the web server. since the entire page isn't sent IE hangs waiting for the last parts of the file. eventual IE times out and the page loads.
either the intial file is damaged (run fsck) or the web server has problems (restart apache/reboot the computer)
as i was writing this the site now seems to respond and close the connection properly after i telnet to port 80 and request a file.
