MYSQL SOCkET ERROR

i'm trying to get mysql to work on a redhat Linux 7.2 server. everything install fine; however, the mysql.sock is no where to be foundon this server. Is tehre a way to create it, do I need to reinstall, etc. Need help please.

if there is not mysql.sock then the mysql deamon is not running.

Make sure you have started mysqld and that it did not produce an error and die. Check mysql's *.err logs.

Thanks for your reply. We are new to my sql, trying to migrate an web base appfrom from ms sql2000 to mysql. I check the logs and they were blank. When we try to run mysqld we get hte following error:

error 2002: Can't connect to local MySql server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.soc' any suggestions
