HELP please

I have a linux server and installed Apache and PHP manualy but it seems that i cannot connct anyhow to my database but im out of options can somebody help me ????
so if anyone can help Please do so maybe i can do something in return 😛

What kind of database, is it on the same server? what kind of errors are you getting?

if you're running mysql or if you plan to run mysql, have you installed it?

Check some Tutorials from the web and get yourself the PHP Documentation, which is really good, read a bit about the config and installing topics. Then test a simple script e.g.

echo "Test";

, whether the server parses the file.

If this is okay, move to the database connection Problem.

this works already thanks but i already took a look at the MAN and still no RESPONSE from the server i installed PHP using ver 4.0.6
and MySQL rpm
So any other solutions i did configure it using ./configure --with-mysql --with-apxs=/usr/sbin/local/apxs

Good so far, did you even start a Mysql server on your server?!

Normally you do this by

./bin/safe_mysqld --user=mysql &

in the mysql root directory.

no i started it in rc.local
using /etc/rc.d/init.d/mysqld start

Well thats also ok! check with a

ps ax | grep mysql

wheter the deamon really runs.

If it runs, you have to create a User, which is indeed not totally easy, so I suggest, you get the mysql manual and read the chapter about how to create a user and which rights, you have to give him.

You mean PS AUX right and yes the deamon is running i already have a user named mysql and this user has al the sufficient right to the database but somehow it still isnt working

Mhh, Ok so far so good!

can you connect with the user, that you've created through the mydsql commandline client "mysql".

Try "mysql --help" and find out, how to connect to it (must be something like mysql --user [User] --password[Password]

If this is ok, the problem lies by PHP.

everything runs fine like i ttol u but i still dont know what the problem is maybe u can take a look ???? is that an option ?
and in the aggetty shel i can connect to the mysql db but just not in PHP very strange

Ok, state your php code here with the corresponding output. This couldn't be a real problem, I mean PHP is parsed and myswl runs, there should be no problem?!

Is PHP Compiled with Mysql Support (you can see it wit phpinfo(); command.

Yes its compiled with mysql suport but the fault code is :
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: mysql_connect() in /var/www/html/eforum/funcs.mysql.php on line 6

This seems familiar ?

Mhh, yes and it says me, that there is NO mysql support, otherwise this function would be known!

Just try some other mysql related functions, If they fail also, there is no such support.
