Text file import.

Does anyone know of a script that figures out if a text file is delemited by a tab or comma? Also, if it ends with a \n or a \r\n? I was thinking of reading through the file and just doing a count and grabbing the max value of each of the options. Any other ideas?

That won't work. What if I have a file that contains two columns with 64 tabs each, seperated by a comma?

You'll just have to select the format manually. You can try to do a pre-emptive str_replace to get rid of any possible \r's, but that too is tricky.

This is easy

use if statments on counts
$file=file("file.xls");
for($l=0;$l<count($file);$l++){
if(($this=split("\,",$file[$l])) and ($c=count($this)) $deli=",";
if(($this=split(" ",$file[$l])) and ($c=count($this)) $deli="tab";
}

can't you trim(chop($string)); for the \n and those?

lol.. don't be so smug, because the code you post makes no sense at all. There is even a syntax error in it.

The IF statements that you find so easy, will return true for any content of $file(yes I tested it, maybe you should to). Even if you put three thousand commas in it, the 'tab' IF still returns true.

ok so use preg_match instead, I a just saying it IS possible.

when I put code up here, its a brainstorm, and I dont really check syntax, as it is ment to get them started with possible solutions.
