I am an experience Oracle developer (16 years+). I can design, develop and create a relational database attached to an Oracle form with a heart beat. But I have not try creating any web stuff with Oracle because it was just too darn expensive and the ritual of setting one up using the Oracle tools, ie, Web portal, JAVA, IAS, OAS.... and so on was just too much. So guess what I hopped on the open source bandwagon and to my great discovery came these three powerful tools, Apache, PHP and MySQL. I relaxed my stance on MySQL and swallow Apache and PHP with a vengance. Within 3 hours, yes three hours, I installed Apache, PHP and created my first web page using ODBC. I was even capable of calling the page from my intranet. No Problems at all on my home machines.
....But I have a problem.
Here is my problem.
I hooked up my knowledge to my client, ie, installed Apache, PHP, run a PHP program thru ODBC I get the famous "ORA-12154:TNS:Could not resolve service name". Keep in ming that I've been using Oracle for a long time. I think I know by now how to network Oracle. Despite all my responses I got nowhere. Now SQL*PLUS, Visual C++, Oracle Forms all work without a hitch. No matter how I turned things around I cannot resolve the issue. 'Microsoft ODBC for Oracle' works fine with my Visual C++. I downloaded other drivers from the net to try them out too and still no dice. I need help. Maybe I configured something wrong.
Now my customer's solo machine is an Oracle database server, an Apache Web server and also a client.
Thanks in advance
