next and prev buttons for php and mysql

Hi I have came across a few of these but couldnt make them work..

Does any one have a good easy to install prev and next links for calling data from a database.

Its for a questbook im building.

Use something like

my_story.html?ID=#####

Where ID is the records unique identifier. So uppon generating the page you determine which record preceeds and which record follows.

previous url would be
my_story.html?ID=%previous record key%

next url would be
my_story.html?ID=%next record key%

Thanks for your reply I have no html pages everythin is called from a tableon a mysql database.

If anyone has a solution pls let me know
