How do u create a mysql database?

Im a brand newbie to php and mysql. I decided i had to learn a language. It was either asp or php, and php got my vote.

I have my server set up on my hime pc, and have a little knowlege of php....BUT how do u create a mysql datbase??

OS = win xp

PS - Any helpfull links concerning php and database connection / display / editing would be wonderfull.

You can create a database with MySql instructions:

CREATE DATABASE nomedb;

if you want to use only php:

mysql_query("CREATE DATABASE nomedb");

Get rid of XP and use Linux. Or, buy a new computer and install Linux on it, and keep XP as well. Or, dual boot your computer with Linux. Either way, PHP and MySQL will work much better on Linux. Plus, it's free, and you can change the hardware as much as you want- no more bending over for Mr. Gates. You'll probably spend at least three months learning how to install things and get around the system and that sort of thing, I can guarantee you'll have to reinstall the OS at least once, and you'll probably not take our advice to not log in as root unless you need to until you delete your /etc/bin directory, but after you get past those minor obstacles, you will be a happy and proud member of the Free World.
