MySQL - AAAARRGH!!!!!!!!

Bit confused by the RPM instsllation of MySQL, which doesnt want to help me. Here's a few yes/nos, which someone could answer quite quickly.
1) Do i have to issue the rpm -i command from a particular directory, say /usr/share/doc ?. Does this make a difference?
2) When the rpm command says 'error, failed dependencies' does this mean that nothing has been installed?
3) Is it sufficient to just find & install failed dependencies from RPM's.

Thanks to any gurus out there - you could save my sanity!

2) YES! failed dependencies mean that the RPM requires some software that you do not have on your system yet. Install those first, then retry installing mysql
3) Seems to make sense doesn't it? :-)

The dependency issue was solved by installing the MySQL-shared-3.23.47-1-i386[1].rpm before the package with the main server in it. In other words, it was RIGHT UNDER MY FUCKING NOSE!! Never the less, i appreciate your help.

ps, you open source people are much more helpful than VB people, i was on some VB forum sites and they all sucked!
