tips for MySQL newbie?

Well I just want to know if anyone can give me any tips. I am starting to study MySQL for use with PHP.

There are only 3 things which matters when learning any programming language...

1) Write
2) Write
3) Write

And before you start to do it you have to do first:

1)Read
2)Read
3)Read

I suggest you start with the articles on the left on PHPBuilder.com.

Then when you be able to write more then you read it will go faster.. just dont give up!

Please read the manuals and use them for reference before you ask questions. That's what they are there for.

There are a lot of great tutorials on the web to learn the basics of PHP and MySQL. Once you understand them, you just adapt to your needs. Look for tutorials on

www.phpbuilder.com (obviously)
www.devshed.com (my favorite)
www.hotwired.com/webmonkey (this is where i learned. look under programming)

This forum and the one on devshed.com are great for getting your questions answered. I personally like the layout on devshed better, but I come over here occasionally to help people.

The best tip I can give is:
- Do proper error checking. Make sure every time you execute a query, you also check if the query did indeed execute, and if not, print the mysql error message.
Don't just use "or die" because that will not help you at all.
The manual says just how to print real error messages, that tell you things like
"syntax error near SELECT" etc.
