mysql and russian charset 1251

i want to search mysql database where some values are in russian, lookin like

Òåêòîíè÷åñêèå óñëîâèÿ ôîðìèðîâàíèÿ ñòðóêòóð è îñàäî÷íîãî ÷åõëà Ïðèáàëòèêè

for example.

i display them with 1251 charset and they look OK.

the problem is that the LIKE command
sees å,á and a the same. and the same is with e and so on.

i dont want that.

any suggestions?
