ob_start(ob_gzhandler ) - killed mySQL

I seem to get this today :

mySQL said : To many connections

And also : Unable to select Database .....

The site has been running fine , This just happened today .... any idea what causes this ?

There were 500 people on the site , but I have seen other mySQL DB sites with 800+ on and no problems ?

The only thing i have done is that compression technique which was describned here <?php ob_start(ob_gzhandler); ?>

could that caused it ?

There is only one solution: increase the maximum connections setting in your mysql server.

any idea how many mySQL can handle ?

Absolute maximum is 1000, but each backend takes around 2-3MB, so you need a massive machine to do that. start with 150 or 200 to be safe.

Hi Vincent .... i found out that my Forum VBulletin caused the error

145 = Table was marked as crashed and should be repaired

thanksfully it was repairable ... the DB = 75MB so was alot of stuff to loose ...
