select last information

Hi,

I´m writing a news site where I want my script to select the information for the current day, 02/06/2002 for example.
But, if there´s no information for this date it should select the last one, like 02/05/2002...

I can´t select the last inserted with DESC because my input system have to accept future updates, in my example: my database have some news that have to be selected only on 02/12/2002...

any help please???

Try selecting where the news date is <= to the current date. Then order by DESC.
