connectionless DSN

Is it possible to use a connectionless DSN with PHP? I've searched around and I haven't seen anything to suggest that it's possible.

PHP is a proper language, it does not need the MS crapola.

I don't have a choice in my DB with my current ISP. I'm trying to move away from MS products, but I've paid ahead and I can't just jump providers. I know php can handle ODBC with a DSN but that costs me extra. You don't have to be so elite in your answer.
