Converting MSSQL to MYSQL

anyone have a script (perl, applescript, real basic, etc) that can convert MS SQL syntax into MySQL compatible syntax?

I'm running OSX (BSD) and all the scripts that I find are for VB on some MSWIN platform.

anyone have this problem before.
even if the script runs on Linux PPC or Linux i386 or MacOs 8,9 that would work for me.

You'll find that converting from MS-SQL to MySQL is a lot more complex than just changing the format.

MySQL doesn't support 90% of what MS-SQL supports, no stored procedures, no views.

You'll have to work around all the cool things that real databases like MS-SQL do for you.

I suggest you consider using PostgreSQL instead.

I agree with Vincent, however, if you are only using "simple" SQL it is possible very little would need to be changed. If you only use SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETE odds are conversion would be trivial.

It's definately worth it to first check what exactly is in the MS-SQL database, what the schema is like, before you start converting it to MySQL. Something as trivial as a view can mean that you have to re-program your scripts to work around it.

so there seems to be two trends in this
this database is super simple so it really doesn't need Postgre or MS which is why I want to convert it.
this is the sql that is being used:

CREATE TABLE
ON
GO

CREATE VIEW
AS
SELECT
AS
FROM
INNER JOIN
ON
RIGHT OUTER JOIN
ON
LEFT OUTER JOIN
ON
WHERE
Go

INSERT INTO
VALUES
GO

what do you guys think
I was just going to make a perl script to deal with this, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't going to be wasting my time.

Well there you go, MySQL does not do VIEWS, and it's INNER, RIGHT OUTER JOIN and LEFT OUTER JOIN are less than compatible. You'll have to check wether these JOINs do the same in MS as in MySQL.

I suggest you look at postgres, MySQL is just too limited for this.
