Actual MySQL Backup

I'm moving hosts and got a big rar file with the actual mysql dir with my db in it.
it contains files like .MYD .MYI .FRM and I have no idea howto convert these to something I can actualy use.
the option of pasting this on the other server is not standing.

Nothing for it then, you'll have to setup a mysql server locally, copy the table-files in there and start it up. (note that you may have to use the same OS type as your old host, un*x or windows, to be able to read the files)

Then you can use mysqldump to make a proper backup that you can restore on your new server.

is there a more "user-friendly" way to back up my DB tables than mysqldump? I know phpMyAdmin works very bad with these tasks.

Depends on what you find 'userfriendly'.
Personally I find mysqldump very userfriendly.
one command to make a backup, one command to restore.

If you want to do it another way, you'll have to do some custom programming, which in the end will boil down to mysqldump anyway. 🙂
