user postgres does not exist

I've got postmaster and cygwinipc running on Windows 2000 with cygwin.

Trying to connect in pgadmin II displays 'fatal 1: user "postgres" does not exist'.

The cygwin commandline:
$ psql -U postgres template1
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Any help?

well, you could try creating the postgres user in cygwin using PostgreSQL's createuser command ;-)

or try logging on as the user that you were when you installed postgres.

$ createuser postgres

createuser: creation of user "postgres" failed

OTOH, logging in as the other user seems to work 🙂!
