remote database administration

the hosting company i use doesn't allow me direct access to my MySQL databases, so I have to connect by other means, through like PHP or something that runs on the web server. I just want to be able to have functionality similar to mysql command line, know of any good PHP applications that aren't huge and are easy to install and configure? I thought I saw a script that would mimic the mysql command line, but I forgot where i saw it.

Have you looked at phpMyAdmin? It's kind of large, but not too hard to install... I find it to be the most useful tool. You can do EVERYTHING with it...

By the way, my host has a similar restriction, but they enable us to work with our databases through phpMyAdmin. And they make it available to us through our domain control panel. It's very convenient. Perhaps you should recommend to your provider that if they don't allow telnet for security reasons, perhaps THEY should give you access to phpMyAdmin...

they gave me a link to phpMyAdmin, but the latest version doesn't work with my host's version of PHP. I could haev gone back and gotten an older version, but I just decided to use a little one file solution I found in the code database, I don't need all the stuff phpMyAdmin offers.
