Ok so one of the sites that I designed, pinkbike.com is getting hammered with traffic. I can really see a dramatic difference between looking at the site during peak hours and off hours. Primarely the forum system and photo archives which use a database.
I see that much of the load of the system is on th mysql database. Most of the time it sits at around 40% of system cycles.
To leviate some of the load I'm looking at some of this mysql "replication". A couple of questions that I have after reading the mysql.com replication are:
1) Can you just replicate a single database or do you have to replicate the ENTIRE server.
I would just like to replicate a couple databases and not ALL the data on that database server.
2) How is the replication time setup. Meaning does the master feed the slave when ever it's been updated, or does the slave continiouly look at the masters transaction log and update it's self whenever a new updata to the master happened. What is the period of this update checking or how is that setup?
Thanks
Radek
