mssql timing out after 60 seconds

I tried adjusting the max_execution_time, but it still didn't work. The php online manual actually said that it wouldn't affect commands like "sleep", DB queries, etc. but I figured it was worth a shot.

The actual error said "Query failed", but I can see that it only happens on long queries.

have you tested the long queries from a command line client to be sure that you don't have any syntax or other errors in the query?

Yes, from MS Query Analyzer, and the query runs fine. I also tried several different queries and the same thing happens ... it fails after about 60 seconds. Is it also true that increasing the max_execution_time shouldn't have any effect on mssql_query? It makes me suspicious because I saw it set to 60 seconds in my php.ini file, so I changed it using ini_set("max_execution_time",300) at the beginning of my script. Same result.

Does your server error log have any additional info on the query failure? That would be a good place to start checking as to why you are getting the error.

No, the only error message I get in my error log (the one in the php.ini) and also printed in my browser is "Query failed in <filename> at line 81".
