updates (empty fields)

hey, hopin someone could help me by givin me a tip on how to write a script for updating a field. The problem is this - i have written the script to update and it works great, HOWEVER, if i do not enter anything in a certain field ... it will then have NOTHING in it when updated. what im tryin to find out is - how to get the page to load the information into those fields thus not having to re-type anything and then simply altering a certain field.

specify a default value for the field when you create the table.

hey -- thanks for the reply - i should have mentioned i am new to any of this - how exactly do i go about specifying the deault - and how do i make it so that it is the values already in the database fields ?

get phplib's template.
create your form and put template values into the form
then when the user goes to the form they see what has already been saved. Updates will then be complete.

The other solution is that when you construct your update statement to omit any fields where the new value is empty()

or alter the structure of your table to use defaults in fields that need them.
