I recently sent a request to my current web host asking for MySQL. I told him if he cannot provide the service, I will be forced to move elsewhere. Here is his reply, maybe someone can help me answer his questions:

There are two issues with providing SQL support - CPU Horsepower, and security. If we were to offer SQL support, it would be in the form of a third plan or for only Plan C customers and it would result in a price increase, since we would prefer to set up an additional cluster to handle SQL.
That aside, we come to the security issue - the only question I have here (I'm a Microsoft SQL user myself and have never touched mySQL). I'm not exactly sure how mySQL handles user accounts and database security for multiple hosting clients. I know how Windows 2000 handles it with basic 'nt users' but an unlimited license for SQL 2000 is about $18,000 so there really is no way to justify that cost for the prices we charge for HOSTRONIX plans. mySQL does provide a realistic alternative since there are no licensing fees, but I'll need to do some research on it before a decision can be made. Any information you have (personal experience) that you could share with me would be appreciated.
