Getting innoDb tables working

I have just upgraded from an earlier version of mysql to version 3.23.49 and i have tried to configure my my.cnf file so that i can use innobase tables. Unfortunately when i check to see if the tables are functioning i get a disabled sign saying that obviously they are not activated. Can someone please tell me how to properly configure my system so that I can use these types of tables with my database? My system configuration is a pentium 3 500 mhz, 128mb ram running windows 98! thanks very much if anyone can help!

Are you sure you should have my.cnf and not my.ini?

and does your mysql version even support innodb?

yes my version dowloaded from mysql.com states that it does support the tables. I have a my.ini in my windows directory and a my.cnf in my hard disk directory. I assume u only need one yeh? but the instructions that I have been trying to follow dont say much about the my.ini they simply say use a my.cnf file? can u advise? I really need to get these innodb tables working as soon as possible! preferebly today.
