mysql response

i am using mysql database on linux

also i ahve used cgi script,front end is html

when i send request to apache web server on linux and if database table has size say 10,000 records it is taking lot of time say 9 -10 minutes,how can i bring it down to few seconds

Use indices is the short answer. You may have issues inside your script. Showing the code would help.

i have used undices
i have indexed on three columns but when i use only one column inehere condition and ommit other two columns it is not working which i confirmed from explain select command on mysql prompt.

even i am not able to update the records of table on which indexing is done

i will mail u the code but tell me where i can get detailed help on indexing.
