set timezone in mysql

Hi everyone!

My problem is that my webhost is located in the US, but all my users are swedish. How do I set the timezone to CET? I've skimmed through the mysql docs, but I didn't find any good ways to do it directly from my PHP scripts.

one of the way is :

$hourdiff = "16";
// hours difference between server time
// and local time in this case, we're ahead
// of our server by 16 hours
$timeadjust = ($hourdiff 60 60);
$melbdate = date("l, d F Y h:i a",time() + $timeadjust);

Ok, that would work, but my idea was to get all time-entries in the db correct from the beginning like psuedo:

do_mysql_login();
set_mysql_timezone();

...

/ Do whatever needs to be done, inserts updates selects etc etc without any time-conversion /

...

mysql_logout();

In this way I would not need to infect my guru-über-hacker-code with timeconversion everywhere 😉

Any ideas?
