OPTIMIZE TABLE crashed mysql

hello,
I ran OPTIMIZE TABLE TABLENAME, and my database is now locked up.

I can not write to the table I tried to optimize. I got an error, and now when I look at the table in myphpadmin, it says it is "in use".

Mysql is running on a windows 2000 server.

please let me know what i can do to fix this if it is possible.

something has a lock on the table that wasn't properly released.

either restart your database cleanly, or use the process list to find and kill the offending process.

it show's error 144.. according to mysql, that is:
Table is crashed and last repair failed.

how do i repair a table? or is my data lost?

Search before you post, someone else had this exact same problem. a few days ago.

run myisamchk or one of the other tools (read the fantastic manual)

PS never ever run an admin task like that through a web-interface like mysqladmin, it's just not right.

Make sure you guys are analyzing your tables before optimizing. You can't optimize a table that's broken, it wont do anything.
