MySQL Crippleware?

Has anyone experienced any problems with the MySQL version (3.22.34) that comes with Julie Meloni's book "PHP -- Fast & Easy Web Development" ?

I have not been able to create any database, unless it is named "testDB" (or perhaps begins with the letter "T") for some reason. Not only that, I am also being limited to having no more than 9 tables in this database. I've tried numerous attempts at getting around this, but the results are always the same!

The obvious answer is to e-mail the author, but the obvious response (if this truly is crippleware) will be zilch :-)

So is this "crippleware" or what? And is there anything in an .ini file or something that I can investigate to see if this is the problem?

I played around with it a little, it seemed to work okay. But mysql is free, why not just download the latest release?

Yes, thanks, I decided to do the download. So you had no problems with that MySql version then?

Could be this confounded Win Me machine I am using. I'm too far along to go back to Winddoze 98, and too afraid to do the XP-erimental upgrade just yet :-)
