finding position/location of html object

Is there any way to use PHP to find the position of a table cell? I'm trying to output a lot of information from a database to a page that can be printed (it ends up being about 10 pages). Obviously I don't want the table rows to be cut in half, so I want to be able to add page breaks before each row that might be cut. If I could find the position of the element I could insert page breaks at certain positions. Any other ideas on how to solve this problem (besides making PDF)? Anything with CSS? Thanks.

There is ofcourse no way of knowing where a cell will be on screen, let alone on paper (for one thing; you don't know what paper size they are using)

The best you can do (besides using PDF)
is to use very simple HTML, and just try it out one various browsers and printers.
