my sql server, database connection

Hello, I am running mysql server on a unix server. I have a database that I need to work with, within mysql using frontpage.
I am told to use php to do this,
I am not sure how or where to start, can someone help me please

Hey Paula, how are you?

i was in your position just last month. Today I'm running an Apache Web Server with MySQL where I use PHP to query the database.

How much experience do you have with source code, or did you install MySQL using the precompiled package?

In a nutshell, after you install MySQL, you then have to install Apache with PHP support, and then install PHP on the server.
