php array ?????

I am new to php and I am wondering what is the easiest way to pass a variable to the function (mysql_fetch_array) or is that the proper function to use. What i have is a list of interface cards that go to routers, and i have the php setup to list the routers and pass the variable along, i just dont know what to pass that variable into that will give me all the info? Any help would be appreciated.
