Heres the deal. I am playing with MySql and I created a user with these commands

grant select, insert, delete, update
on mp3.*
to ben indentified by 'password';

but when I try to login as ben

mysql -u ben -p
Enter Password: password

I get this error

ERROR 1045 Access denied for user: 'ben@localhost' (USING PASSWORD: YES)

What version of MySql, and OS are you using? And how did you install it?

Can you connect as root? Some of the default installs connect as root with no password. If you can connect as root, with no password - then the error is in the user and grant set up.

After doing a grant you need to run \'flush privileges\'
